Supporting Women and Girls with a "Virtual" Coast To Coast Walk
Besides being committed to our customers and to sustainability, at SustainIt we are all really conscious about the importance of doing our bit to help make a positive difference within our communities and society.
In the past we pledged to different initiatives which got us engaged on different levels. To name just a few, we baked cakes and we cycled to work to support our local hospice, we twinned our toilet providing Awalwal in Uganda with an efficient pipe system, and we joined a volunteer scheme in order to enable each one of us to get involved with a local charity of our choice (some of us volunteered even during the Christmas Holidays this year!!).
This March we decided to kick-start this New Year joining as a team what we found to be a wonderful and very meaningful initiative: Walk in Her Shoes.
Women and girls struggle to get an education or get a job because they have to walk an unbelievable amount of kilometres each day in order to get water. That`s a horrific and terrible fact that can`t be ignored and needs to be tackled in order to enable them to develop and fulfil their potentials.
That`s why our aim from 21 - 27 March is to walk at least 50,000 steps per day between us all, with a week’s target of 175 miles. It’s about (5500 steps) 2.8 miles/4.5km per day per person and the 175 miles is the distance in the UK from Coast to Coast (East to West!).
We are really committed to this cause, and armed with our t shirts and pedometers we are confident we will meet our goal and walk, virtually speaking, Coast to Coast!
But we also need your help: we want aim to raise some money to support this event in a more consistent way. Our target is to raise at least £450 among all of us, and your donation can really help us smash this goal.
