SustainIt welcome Dr Bike!
As part of SustainIt's commitment to employee satisfaction, safety and sustainable commuting, the company offers each employee a contribution towards bicycle maintenance every year. This year, having been in talks with Go Green and Bristol's Local Sustainable Transport Fund initiative, we decided to invite Dr Bike to our offices. Dr Bike is an innovative scheme offered by Life Cycle UK and the Bristol Bike Workshop, whereby an experienced mechanic visits a site and services, repairs and tweaks all employees' bikes.
Rob arrived at 2pm, punctually, and set about servicing our 6 bikes. Some were in tip top condition (Charlie's new carbon frame triathlon bike being a good example) and only needed a little oil. Others (Joe's flat tyred, hasn't-been-used-in-six-months Giant mountain bike falls into this category) needed new gear cables, brake pads, and inner tubes. On top of the on-site improvements Dr Bike made, he also made recomendations as to further potential issues that should be looked into, for instance a full hub service and new chain were recomended for Matt's rather tired old racing bike.
At a small cost to the company, SustainIt have improved the safety and ridability of these vital modes of transport. All in all, this was an excellent service, and we wouldnt hesitate to receomend Dr Bike to any other organisation which cares about the satisfaction and safety of its staff, and the carbon footprint of their commute.
