SustainIt are cycling to work!
26 August 2014 by Roy Bidder
Cycle to Work Day is a national event which aims to encourage everyone to take to two wheels and cycle to work for just one day on Thursday 4th September 2014. Last year’s event saw a Herculean effort from the 20,000 commuters who hit the streets and cycled over a quarter of a million miles.
The benefits of cycling to work are huge:
It’s cheaper! In these hard economic times people need more affordable alternatives to the car to travel to work, cycling is a low-cost alternative.
It’s healthier! The average cycle commute to work should burn 235 calories.
It Saves Time! By cycling to work we get the daily exercise we need, without having to spend any extra time or money to get it.
At present 40% of SustainIt employees already cycle each day to work. We are trying to increase this number and have recently implemented a cycle scheme to encourage staff to buy a bike. On Thursday 4th September we hope to get everyone involved in this event. It will end with a team photo and coffee and a pastry, or for the more health conscious, juice and a piece of fruit.
